MLWTCO and No Liquids
You’ve been on the beach for way too long. It’s been 31 days since you’ve been on a plane—it’s like some new record. You’ve been taking some weekend trips to the real beach, so it’s not like it’s been 31 days without your carry-ons. You’d miss your dear friends Briggs & Riley too much if they were in your hall closet for that long (www.briggs-riley.com) .
You’ve been basking in life on the beach, so you didn’t even pay attention to the new TSA measures. You were happily in your own world of working from home and forgetting Life With Two Carry-Ons. But, you’ve been hearing your favorite coworker bitch way too much about her Life With Two Carry-Ons Minus The Liquids Plus Added Stress of Terror Threats and Losing Luggage, that you started to think about what it will be like (that is, if you are ever staffed again). You read the following off of tsa.gov:
NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE. ITEMS MUST BE IN CHECKED BAGGAGE. This includes all beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency.
GASP. No personal supply of diet coke on those long runway delays…no Stila lipgloss to reapply when sitting near cute male traveler…no tooth paste or scope for when you arrive in the airport…no deodorant for when the plane A/C inevitably fails on the runway in Phoenix in July…no B&B Anti Frizz for when you run out the door on Travel Day Monday and do your hair during the final approach…no SPF 45 or moisturizer with SPF 20 for when you are on the sunny side of the plane (Jammahs has very fair skin)…no chapstick during the winter months…no more Poland Spring from your kitchen on Travel Day Monday…no more spritz of perfume in the airport bathroom in case you are next to someone smelly and will need to smell your wrists…(In writing this, you now realize why your carry-ons are so freakin’ heavy...traveling light was never your thing).
You store your toiletries at the hotel each week, so maybe the measures won’t impact you that often. But what about all the times you decide to take the toiletry bag with you-- like at the beginning or end of a new project, if you are going on alternate travel, or will be changing hotels. The stress of it! You need to hire a Consultant for the advanced planning and decision making that will have to come about--new lipstick choices, packing techniques, hydration strategy. Most importantly, you wonder if you will continue to have two carry-ons. Will your life turn into Life With One Carry-On and One Checked Bag? Or My Life With Two Carry-Ons, Frizzy Hair, Unglossed Lips and Parched Mouth? At least TSA hasn’t banned twizzlers—yet.
